Pathways of Resistance: The Erie Canal and the Underground Railroad In-Person
2025 marks the bicentennial of the opening of the Erie Canal. This Black History Month, please join us for a talk by the Erie Canal Museum Education Department that recognizes some of the many important contributions made by Black Americans in Central New York.
This constantly evolving talk examines the experience of Black Americans along the Erie Canal Corridor, with a particular focus on the struggle for abolition. While parts of this story are unpleasant, slavery, racism, and resistance are critical to understanding our society today.
