Sci-Fi Novella Book Club - This is How You Lose the Time War by Amar El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone In-Person

Join Brigid on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:45–6:45 PM for a journey through short but unforgettable science fiction stories! Novellas are longer than short stories but shorter than traditional novels. Meet new friends, dive into imaginative worlds, and discuss each month’s hand-picked novella—from robots and rogue AI to time-traveling lovers and interstellar explorers.

All are welcome, whether you’re a long-time sci-fi fan or new to the genre.

  • November: To Be Taught If Fortunate by Becky Chambers--At the dawn of the twenty-second century, humanity can finally leave Earth thanks to somaforming, a technology that lets astronauts survive—and even thrive—in the most hostile environments. Ariadne O’Neill and her crew journey to distant exoplanets, exploring alien worlds and recording the wonders and dangers they encounter. But as Earth changes in their absence, Ariadne must ask: who will be there to hear their story when they return?

  • December: This is How You Lose the Time War by Amar El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone–A tale of time, love, and rivalry. Two agents on opposite sides of a war begin an unlikely correspondence—what starts as taunts and boasts turns into a secret, epic romance that could reshape the past and decide the future. But falling for your enemy has its risks, and discovery could mean death for both.

  • January: Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz – Cozy science fiction! In post-war San Francisco, a band of rebooted robots find purpose cooking noodles in an abandoned kitchen. But when sabotage threatens their thriving shop, they must lean on their community—and each other—to survive.
