The Typewriter Project: Library Edition In-Person
In honor of National Poetry Month, we are installing The Typewriter Project, an interactive literary experience that invites library visitors to participate in a shared, evolving work of writing. Located within the library, this analog station encourages patrons of all ages to contribute their words to a collaborative piece.
The typewriter station features a "vintage" typewriter and a continuous paper scroll. Each contribution becomes part of a growing community narrative—preserved on the scroll and available to read, reflect on, and celebrate throughout the month of April.
Inspired by the Poet Society of New York's Typewriter Project, this initiative brings together many voices to create a single, ever-changing work. Writers build on what came before them—sometimes in harmony, sometimes in surprise—resulting in a rich tapestry of perspectives.
By situating the project in the library, we create a welcoming space for creativity, reflection, and connection. The Typewriter Project seeks to capture and preserve the collective imagination of our community while offering a playful and meaningful way to engage with the written word.
Our Typewriter Project Booth was funded by the Friends of Marcellus Free Library.
